#195584 2.29. Back to school! (Updated)

Posted by DanFariasM on 03 September 2018 - 08:53 PM

What's new.

Ready to go back to school? Don't worry. His Majesty prepared a new educational program for you! ;)

Jump between classrooms and steal Scrolls. Under each scroll, you will find a reward. But never forget about the Red Guard: he doesn't like those who break the rules!

UPDATE: Join the final part of the Back to School event, because His Majesty has added more unique gem types you may get during the learning process!

It means that variety of unique gems available on green levels is now wider than it was before. However the probability to get the rarest of them like Heart, Leprechaun and Snowman is considerably higher on later stages. Still we recommend to balance risk vs reward ratio carefully.

#195323 2.28 is here! Watch your step!

Posted by DanFariasM on 06 August 2018 - 01:02 PM

It's said that the King is traveling with his the most precious gems. Why? Who knows... But we'll keep you posted via in-game news!

Cannon is twice as useful now because we’ve added four diagonal directions for it!

This saw will do everything to cut you in half as soon as you step on it! Watch out!

Now you can test dungeons with the same rules like attacking a dungeon for real. Try it!

Good luck

#194905 2.27 is here! Meet the Living Totem!

Posted by DanFariasM on 04 July 2018 - 12:02 PM

A new event, a new world, and more bug fixes. It’s all here, in this new update!

The living totem, the last of its kind, is now waiting for you in your dungeon. From time to time, it wakes up and can send you to other worlds! Raid dungeons, collect runes, and get a unique costume and other rewards!

We’ve also fixed a bunch of bugs to make your gaming experience even better.

#193657 2.24 Update is here! What's new?

Posted by DanFariasM on 30 January 2018 - 04:09 PM

Servers launched! Update 2.24 has been released.

King of Thieves is ready to steal as well as thieves at his court. The main feature of this update is Random Traps that will add more diversity to the game and will help to design brand new dungeons no one has ever seen before.

Please note that updates appear in different time in different regions. And sometimes you'll have to restart your device and open your store to update manually. If you can't see the 'Update' button, do NOT reinstall the game. It will appear a bit later.

Here's what we're bringing you with the first update of 2018:

With this update we've added Random Traps - a new set of traps for each dungeon. Each time you move into a new dungeon, you can choose to defend it with three random traps. Create new layouts with no limits!

#193562 Random trap set sneak peek - Updated info

Posted by DanFariasM on 17 January 2018 - 04:08 PM

We can’t switch the direction where to go from the door or invert dungeons. However we’re working on something better by far: random traps.

It will add a lot of diversity in the dungeon design and will allow high skilled players to get maximum benefits from their talent leaving all others who got used to call themselves pro behind.

When you choose Random Trap set you get.. well... three random traps. Then you may reroll results with ability to hold a trap you’d like to keep. It will be impossible to get three of a kind, because it’s not a poker. Chance of getting a double traps will be also reduced in order to avoid exploiting of some combinations that are too popular and too overpowered. No double Roasters will be available.. even in case you will try to get two of them ;)

Yesterday we told you about Random Traps feature and we got a lot of questions. Many of them were about the price. So we think that we have to spill some light on this aspect.

Random Traps will be available for emeralds, not for orbs. After getting Random Trap set, you'll be able to hold one or two traps and reroll the rest for orbs.

#193451 Interview with Semyon Voinov, co-founder of Zeptolab

Posted by DanFariasM on 04 January 2018 - 08:10 PM

December 29th, 2017

My Fellow Thieves, I am very happy that I can bring you an interview unlike any other I have done, today. I would like to welcome Semyon Voinov, co-founder of Zeptolab and creator of King of Thieves along with his brother Effim.

Hello Semyon,
First off I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for the King of Thieves Community, which is unlike any other community that I know.
Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Andrea Freund and to say I am an enthusiastic King of Thieves Player is probably an understatement. In February it will be a year that I have been made a watcher, and I have interviewed quite a few really good King of Thieves players, like Gad who arranged this interview.

Semyon:  Thank you for this initiative, Andrea! I also would like to use this opportunity to give a big shout-out to all KoT watchers! We really appreciate all your effort, passion and care!
Andrea:    You and your brother Efim are the founders of Zeptolab and creators of OmNom. How did you come up with the idea?
Semyon:   Efim and I have been working on mobile games for around 7 years before we started ZeptoLab. Back then, games were pretty basic and meant mostly for java-based phones. The appearance of iPhone has changed the market drastically. In 2010 it became clear that iOS is a perfect opportunity for small developers, so we’ve decided to quit our jobs and start our own venture.
Our first game, “Parachute Ninja” was a moderate success. However, our second game, “Cut the Rope” went way beyond our expectations and became a worldwide hit. That allowed us to rent the office, start hiring more people, and eventually release new, even more ambitious projects.

Andrea:   How difficult was it to get a company like Zeptolab started?
Semyon:   I feel that getting the company started was actually easier than making it grow and adapt to the ever-changing market and audience. We knew how to make good games from the very beginning, but had zero experience in running the company – so we had lots of things to learn (and we still are learning).

Andrea:    I happen to have 2 children myself, and they are as different as day and night. My daughter ist the artsy, creative one, and my son the logical one. They have worked together on some Geometry Dash levels. My daughter did the design, and my son had to make it work, lol. Is it the same with you and your brother?
Semyon:  I always enjoyed drawing, so I naturally became a game artist. Efim has chosen a career path of a game programmer.
Of course, our roles have shifted quite much since we’ve started a company, but we still find joy in hands-on work: for example, I’ve worked on some of the art assets for the KoT (initial app icon, elements of interface, thief animations, etc.) and was involved in the game design quite a lot.

Andrea:    Cut the rope, which I admit I have never played myself (only my children), is a very popular game with several versions already. Yet completely different from King of Thieves. What made you decide to launch a game where people all over the world steal from each other?
Semyon:   While we’ve released many games in „Cut the Rope“ series, we are always interested in developing new original games, too. We are also big believers in multiplayer experience on mobile, so „King of Thieves“ was a perfect experiment in that field.
We actually had some debate whether it’s a good thing to release a game about stealing. But since everyone in KoT is stealing from each other – there are no villains and victims. It’s a kind of a national sport or fun activity for KoT world inhabitants.

Andrea:    King of Thieves started as a spark, an idea, in someones head. How did it go on after that, to get to the point when it can actually be released? There had to be quite a few steps.  Can you please give us a short description of that process?

Semyon:   King of Thieves was born from the little prototype that everyone in the company fell in love with. We immediately recognized the potential, but it took another year to expand it into the very fist version of the game ready for a soft-launch. We had hundreds of brainstorms, playtests, experiments with the gameplay and the art style, technical challenges and so on and on. Developing games is hard! But it’s very rewarding to see millions of people enjoying what we create.
Andrea:    A lot of the players I talk to say that it is the community around King of Thieves that keeps them playing. Here you have people of all different nationalities, races and religions playing together and helping each other. Have you personally ever experienced anything like this in any other online community?
Semyon:  I totally agree that KoT community is amazing and unique! Being an artist, I’m especially impressed with the fan art that community members create!
Long time ago (even before „World of Warcraft“ was released), I’ve played a text-based MMORPG „Aladon“. Some of the players I met in that game, are still my friends – for 13 years and counting! So I certainly understand the value of community in the game, and how it affects our „real“ lifes.
Andrea:    When Zeptolab created King of Thieves, did you think it would become this big?
Semyon:   Yes, I did! :) From the very beginning I felt there’s something special about the game, and I just couldn’t wait to release it.

Andrea:  A lot of the same players who play King of Thieves also play your newest game C.A.T.S, which you launched this year. Again, the idea of putting cats in tanks and let them fight each other is really funny. Do you think C.A.T.S. will get just as big as Cut the rope and King of Thieves?
Semyon:   C.A.T.S. certainly had a very successful launch, and just recently earned the „Best Game of the Year“ award on Google Play. We have a solid plan for expanding the game, so I’m excited about the coming year!

Andrea:   Have you and your brother also played all the games Zeptolab  created, and which is your personal favorite?

Semyon:  Of course, we play all our games! It’s really hard to pick the favorite one – just as if parents would be asked who is their favourite child :)
I think I’d mention Pudding Monsters here. It’s a charming little game that not many people know about.
Andrea:    Do you have any other games planned? Will you give us a sneek preview?
Semyon:    Sure, we do have new games in development! Just like with KoT and C.A.T.S. we’ll continue exploring the multiplayer genre. Unfortunately, I can’t share any additional details just yet.
Andrea:    Now if you don’t mind I would like to get to know the person behind the games a little. How old are you Semyon, and where are your brother and you from?
Semyon:   Efim and I are non-identical twins. We are 35 old, born in Moscow, Russia. My hobbies are theater, film-making, and drums. Efim’s latest hobby is moto trial, but he also enjoys martial arts, swimming, and playing guitar.
Andrea:  It may sound strange, but this is the most important question in the entire interview, everybody in the community is waiting for this. What do you think about Pineapple on Pizza, and what is your favorite pizza topping? :D
Semyon:    This is certainly an important question! :) Especially, since we get pizza delivered to the office two times a week :) My favourite pizza is Margherita. Pineapple is fine, but not exactly my type of topping.
Efim, however, asked to mention that Pineapple pizza is his favorite!

Andrea:     When you’re not busy cooking up new games, what do you do to relax:
Semyon:    Naturally, I play games quite often: not just on mobile, but also on my PS4. The latest game I’ve completed was Horizon Zero and it’s exceptional!
Oh, and I also have a dog called Eva - she’s a „Jack Russell Terrier“ breed. I enjoy walking with her and teaching her new tricks.

Andrea:    And finally, as the end of the year is approaching, what are your wishes for the future?
Semyon:  I’m really looking forward to the games we are planning to release next year, and I wish them to become super successful! I hope the KoT community will like them as well!
Andrea:  Again, I want to thank you for taking time out of your busy day to let us all get to know you.
Semyon: It’s been a pleasure! Thanks for the interesting and fun questions! Happy holidays!

I have to send out a very big Thank you to Gad Vered Kot, for helping me, I couldn't have done it without you 😘😘 and to my Daughter for drawing this beautiful picture especially for this interview

#192887 Interviewing the interviewer! Meet Andrea Freund (Geist812)

Posted by DanFariasM on 28 September 2017 - 04:02 PM

March 16th, 2017

I didn’t do this interview, I was the one being interviewed

Well this time it's a bit different. The interviewer becomes the interviewee. I had the opportunity to interview who i would call a good friend, Andrea Freund. I had a good time getting to know her better and now I'm bringing what i learned to the community.

Well we all know the name of Andrea Freund but not many know the person behind that name. So today I have come to you to get our community to get to know you better than before. So let’s begin.

Zavier: First off I’d ask how old you are but it’s rude to ask a woman’s age so instead we will start off with what do you do in your spare time if you aren’t playing kot?
Andrea: I am a mom with 2 kids, ages 14 and 10, so I always have something to do. And I don't mind telling my age,  I am 47 years old.

Zavier: Where are you originally from?
Andrea: Originally,  I was born in the USA, but I was just a baby when my parents moved to Germany,  so I call Nürnberg (Nuremberg) my hometown.

Zavier: Not everyone knows you in game so what is your in game name/total gem score/ and average delta per round?
Andrea: My in game name is Geist812, I have a total gem score of almost 27 million and this gvg my delta is 1.7 million.  Usually I average anywhere from 200 - 500 k though. I also have 3 other accounts which I play. But Geist812 is my main account.

Zavier: Speaking of your username what’s the origin behind it?
Andrea: Well, that's pretty easy. Geist means Ghost,  and 812 is my birthday, December 8th

Zavier: Being someone who has been playing the game for such a long time what is one thing of advice that you could give to players in game and out of game?
Andrea: Have fun and play fair. Hacking and cheating only hurts yourself and others. Besides,  what fun is there in cheating in a game? Isn't playing the game why we do it? Also, don't be afraid to run big rituals,  this community is really awesome in helping retrieve gems

Zavier: If you could add and or remove anything in game what would it be?
Andrea: Hmmmm, only thing that really comes to mind here is the retrieve chance, maybe if it was a little bigger.  But Zeptolab has already removed the keys requirements for retrieves and that is awesome. I really, really hope it stays that way. This way even a low level player has a chance to help his or her guild by retrieving gems that they don't have enough keys for.

Zavier: What guilds have you been apart of in your kot career?
Andrea: With Geist812 I spent a short time in Supreme Overlord last summer,  but I have pretty much been in "The new Steeler" since I have been playing KoT. I was given leadership a little over a years ago and we brought it up from being ranked in the high 7000s to around 453 I think.

Zavier: Who do you look up to in the community?
Andrea: Omg,  there are so many great people, Robert Perrine,  he always gives advice, Alexis Kot, awesome dungeon designer, Symedia Sorin,  even if he's not playing any more, Shonkee(couldn't tag for some reason) , Bryan Berndt,  both also retired,  but they have all been a Major part in shaping this community and mysrlf as a player. I could go on for hours...

Zavier: What are you best moments in game and not in game?
Andrea: When I can help somebody by retrieving a gem, knowing that it is an incredible feeling when somebody does that for me. Outside of the game, when my children are happy.

Zavier: What are your worst moments in game and not in game?
Andrea: First time I lost a gold gem, it was just a baby gold,  but my only one at the time. Outside of the game was my worst moment lately when we found out our sweet little cat has cancer and probably wont live but a few mire months.

Zavier: How much time do you take out of your day to feed your addiction to playing kot?
Andrea: As much as I can, lol. I might play a total between 1 - 2 hours a day.

Zavier: What is your favorite outfit in game?
Andrea: That has to be Plaque Doctor,  it was the first one I got out of the machine when it came out and I have used it ever since. If I am having trouble saying a hard dungeon though I will use simple black.

Zavier: If you could describe kot to a stranger, how would you?
Andrea: Extremely addictive, loads of fun and very challenging

Zavier: Final question, if you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and who would you take?
Andrea: Every where, I love traveling, I would take my family and my camera with me. I wouldn't need anything else

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions Andrea, and thank you to the reader for taking the time to read the interview.

#192886 Interview with Daniel Farias (DanFariasM)

Posted by DanFariasM on 28 September 2017 - 03:56 PM

March 15th, 2017

Today I will continue my series of interviews of our watchers. I would like to welcome Daniel Farias (Danfariasm) who is also a long time player and Elder Watcher.

Dan, thank you for taking the time to answer some questions for us.

Andrea: Where are you from?
Dan: I’m from Maracaibo, Venezuela  Really lovely place and amazing people.

Andrea: When you’re not playing King of Thieves, what do you do for a living?
Dan: I work as a mechanic engineer in the services and maintenance department of a marine transport company. Boats use diesel engines and I’m in charge everything goes smoothly.

Andrea: How old are you Dan?
Dan: I’m 28, although I’m sure I might seem older at times, specially scolding people on the forums hahaha.

Andrea: You are an Elder Watcher, since when have you been a watcher?
Dan: I was invited to join the team on July 20th, 2015 as a new watcher (Actually called “Lesser watcher” by then), I was promoted to regular watcher about a month after, and to Elder like 3 or 4 months after that.

Andrea: What do you like best about being a watcher?
Dan: I really love this game, so I really look forward to others having the same great experience I’ve had so far. Also, since I really can’t make online purchases because of my country’s situation, this is the best way I have to show my gratitude towards Zepto for making this awesome game. Now regarding watcher “perks”, we used to know about updates a couple days before, due to some leaks in the past that’s no longer the case, but we still get some vague clues about it and that’s enough to get the hype going haha. It’s still awesome to get to know the Zepto guys (Cherv and Stiv) a bit more as well as the rest of the watcher team, they are really great .

Andrea: Would you tell us what level you are and what your average delta is?
Dan: I’m level 222 (lame jackpot haha) and I average about 100k or so, not really the most patient nor luckier, also depends on how the guild is going, I could push for more but it’s usually not needed so I just go with the flow of the battle.

Andrea: You have been playing for a long time, when did you start playing King of Thieves?
Dan: I joined the forums on February 14th (And we fell deeply in love) and my oldest screenshot found is from a day after, but I do remember signing in to the forums a day or so after downloading the game so if it wasn’t the global launch day, it was just hours after.

Andrea: Which guild have you been in since playing KoT, and what guild do you belong to at the moment?
Dan: As soon as I was able to create I guild, I made one with a bunch of real life friends and kept it for a reeeeally long time. During the course of the game my friends left, suddenly I was with a lot of strangers and while it still was fun, it wasn’t the same feeling so I decided to get the friendship feeling going again and joined Yes I stole IT where people I got to know along the KoT ride played, particularly Fezzik (No longer there though).

Andrea: Some players spend hours playing KoT every day, how about you?
Dan: I’d say I play about an hour or so a day, except when making a new base thinking of ways to make people suffer and wonder what the hell is going on haha.

Andrea: What tip would you give other players?
Dan: Prepare yourself for the free for all zone, make rituals to get ingredients, upgrade traps, get a good guild with players you can ask for advice, be creative and make your own designs, it works better a mid difficulty layout that people have never seen than a hard layout that you see every ten skips, and finally but probably most important, enjoy the game, be nice and don’t cheat!

Andrea: What do you think was your best experience in the game:
Dan: For me, it’s not about THE best experience but those small moments that make this game great, finding that golden, winning a really close battle, creating that killer layout out of nowhere and actually saving it haha, seeing that feature you always wanted to be present on the update notes. If I had to choose only one, I’d say the Christmas update and getting every UG in it.

Andrea: Do you regret anything about the game?
Dan: Spinning more than I should but, don’t we all? ;)

Andrea: Are there any players in the game that have inspired you, or you would consider to be „the greatest players „ of KoT?
Dan: I don’t see a particular player to be the “best” player but certainly several have inspired me and I admire them in many ways. As a couple examples, I admire Michael’s dedication, Alexis’ bases, Yuhan’s skill, Chervey’s patience and how can I forget, Bob’s trolls haha just to name a few, since it could take me a really big wall of text to name them all. I also really admire the rest of the watcher team, they are all really smart and have incredible knowledge about the game.

Andrea: Is there anything you would like to see changed in the game?
Dan: I’d like to see a rework in retrieve chances (making them dependant on how you lost it for example), totemius rewards fixed, the ability to flip or mirror layouts, rewards for big rituals, matchmaking or seasons in general, the way and size fake gems are generated, among many other things.

Andrea: If his majesty would grant you one wish, what would it be?
Dan: Bring super jumps back!!!

Andrea: How would you describe KoT to a stranger?
Dan: Something to run away from while you can? Haha jk jk, I’d describe it as a perfect blend of a great platform game with the thrill, and rivalry of any PvP game in which your creativity is really rewarded with seeing people failing miserably with your marvelous creations. Mwahaha

Andrea: We all have our favorite thief/costume, which is yours and why?
Dan: Mine is of course The King’s Watcher, not only because it’s really awesome but for what it represents. (And maybe because we wanted something like it almost even before outfit customization was released haha)

Andrea: You are a musician and play in a band. Would you tell us the name of your band and what type of music you guys make?
Dan: The name of my band is “Cronova” and we play mostly progressive rock / metal which is not as hard or heavy as it sounds but still packs its own punch ;).

Andrea: If you had to chose between spending the evening at an Italian place drinking Red wine,  a bar where you can shoot Pool and play dart,  having cheap beer or an Irish Pub drinking an Irish stout Ale,  which would you chose and why,  ?
Dan: If the Italian place has pizza included count me in hahaha if not, probably the pool and dart place would be my thing, although who the hell cares about the place, company is what matters, any of those with some good friends sharing jokes and having fun would make it a great evening anyway!

Dan, it was nice getting to know you a little better, again, thank you for taking time out of your schedule to give us that opportunity.

#192885 Interview with Fezzik

Posted by DanFariasM on 28 September 2017 - 03:52 PM

March 8th, 2017

Today I would like to continue getting to know our team of Watchers better. My guest today is Fezzik King (Fezzik), a great base designer, long time KoT player and Elder Watcher.

Thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions for us Fezzik.

Andrea: Where are you from?
Fezzik: I’m a Jersey guy, born and raised in New Jersey, USA.

Andrea: When you’re not playing King of Thieves, what do you do for a living?
Fezzik: I’m a freelance technology consultant. Mostly I build websites, web applications, marketing emails, and manage social media presence.

Andrea: How old are you Fezzik?
Fezzik: At 41, I’m actually the oldest of the Elders.

Andrea: You are an Elder Watcher, since when have you been a watcher?
Fezzik: I was asked to be a Watcher back in September of 2015, so it’s been a while.

Andrea: What do you like best about being a watcher?
Fezzik: Really I just love the game and am thrilled to be in a position where I can give back and help out in any way I can.  Watchers are not only moderators for the forum and social media, but we also can be a voice for the community and bring important issues to Zeptolab’s attention.

Andrea: Would you tell us what level you are and what your average delta is?
Fezzik: I’m currently creeping up on level 350.  My delta varies depending on my strategy for battles and leagues, but I guess I typically I average around 500k-600k on my main account.
Andrea: You have been playing for a long time, when did you start playing King of Thieves?
Fezzik: I installed the game just after it was released on Amazon, but I didn’t really understand or get into the multiplayer aspects of it for a month or so.

Andrea: Which guilds have you been in since playing KoT, and what guild do you belong to at the moment?
Fezzik: When guilds were added to the game, I joined some random guild called Ciao. This was before the guild chat was implemented so I never got to know those guys.  I was in a guild called The Horde for a while after that.  Then I moved to Yes I stole IT to hang out with Coffee Bob and Fat Ninja, which is probably where most people have seen me.  Recently I joined one of my own guilds called Dread Pirates, which I lead with one of my alternate characters.

Andrea: Some players spend hours playing KoT every day, how about you?
Fezzik: I’ve sunk more time into this game than I’d care to divulge, but I’ve only hit the time limit once or twice.  Usually I spread my time across various accounts in a few guilds, playing with base designs, raiding techniques, and various GvG strategies.

Andrea: What tip would you give other players?
Fezzik: For new players, upgrade early and often. Don’t worry about losing or stealing gems at low levels.  Raid for enough gold to upgrade your traps, skull gold, and lockpicks.  Don’t waste gold or time on locks.  And constantly run rituals, respinning twice for eyeballs and mushrooms to get your Foreseer 5 throne.  For more established players, if you’re not finding good gems, you’re not skipping enough.  And don’t underestimate the power of designing your own original base.  Well known layouts get 3-starred, no matter how hard they are, but an original design has the element of surprise.

Andrea: What do you think was your best experience in the game:
Fezzik: I have great experiences in the game all the time. I remember getting that last eyeball for my level 5 white shadow (now known as a foreseer throne), maxing my castle, stealing my first semi-perfect gem, making my first perfect gem, getting top prize in season 1...  But there’s nothing like that feeling when getting that 2nd checkmark saving a hard base of your own design.

Andrea: Do you regret anything about the game?
Fezzik: Nothing major, but I probably would have done things a bit differently if I knew what I was doing when I started out.  I think I completed the entire single player map, collecting every xp orb and leveling up as fast as possible before I even raided anyone else or upgraded a trap.  Kids, don’t do that.

Andrea: You’re a great dungeon designer, how do you do it? When you see a dungeon do know right away where the best places for traps are, or do you play around with them for some time?
Fezzik: Thanks!  Usually I have a few ideas for layouts right away, but I love to tinker.  There are some common principles I keep in mind.  For example, I try to make sure my dungeon is still hard if any one trap is removed, to plan for Disable Trap potions.  I also plan for Gang of Thieves, making sure the tail end of the gang won’t survive or have an easy time even after disabling a trap.  When I get a new base, I usually start with a trap in a position that I’d consider difficult to pass, and then I protect that from being disabled with the other traps.  I wouldn’t say I know right away where I want each trap to go, but I’ve been designing bases for so long I usually know what kind of thing might work and what’s easily exploitable.

Andrea: Is there anything you would like to see changed in the game?
Fezzik: Of course there are probably a million things on my wish list, but off the top of my head I think I would most want the ability to flip or rotate dungeon terrain.  That would add a ton of variety.  I’d also love separate retrieve logs for guilds and facebook friends, which listed all the people who made attempts and allowed me to tap to retrieve their gems.

Andrea: If his majesty would grant you one wish, what would it be?
Fezzik: A bit of luck wouldn’t hurt.  So much of this game is based on luck.  The retrieve spinner in particular is unbelievably frustrating.  Far too often I can’t get gems back on 3 stars even after 4 spins.  Please, your majesty, cut a brother some slack.

Andrea: How would you describe KoT to a stranger?
Fezzik: I’d call it an evolving and challenging multiplayer game where you steal and defend gems by design defenses and raiding other people’s defenses.

Andrea: What thief/costume do you like the best for raiding and why?
Fezzik: I usually rock the Style Hunter, which is basically Simple Black with sunglasses.  I find it hard to judge difficult pixel-perfect jumps when there’s too much going on with a costume.  That’s not to say I don’t play around with other costumes or wear my Watcher outfit with pride, but when I really want to get serious with raiding or a tough save I go back to the basics.

Andrea: There are few player who think pineapple doesn’t  belong on a Pizza.  What do you think about it? And what are your favorite Pizza toppings?
Fezzik: Hawaiian pizza (Ham and Pineapple) is one of my top 3 pizzas of all time, along with buffalo chicken pizza and a good local Sicilian pie.

Andrea: What other hobbies beside playing King of Thieves do you have?
Fezzik: To name just a few, I love bass fishing, playing guitar, home improvement, and tinkering with technology.

Again, thank you for answering these questions and letting all of us get to know you a little better.

#192884 Interview with Alex Van de Griendt (Aluce)

Posted by DanFariasM on 28 September 2017 - 03:44 PM

March 1st, 2017

Today my guest is Alex Van de Griendt (Aluce) a member of the Watcher team and long time KoT Player.

Alex, thank you for taking the time to answer a few questions.

Andrea: Alex, where are you from?
Alex: I'm from a small town in the Netherlands, and currently residing in a slightly less small town in the Netherlands.

Andrea: When you’re not playing KoT, what do you do for a living?
Alex: I study mathematics in university. Just another poor student living off of what the government is willing to give to me for my study :)

Andrea: How old are you?
Alex: I am 24 years old.

Andrea: How long have you been a Watcher?
Alex: I became a Watcher on April Fool's day 2016. Of course for a brief moment of time I thought it was an elaborate prank targeted at me for no specific reason! But it soon became clear it was for real.

Andrea: What do you like best about being a Watcher?
Alex: It keeps me involved in all community and game matters directly. People come to me with small problems and I am able to solve them or give them advice and further steps. Helping people out like that is the best feeling and I always enjoy doing it. It makes me feel useful and appreciated.

Andrea: You are a level 180 player with a total gem score ofalmost 40 million, what is your  average delta, and what guild are you in at the moment?
Alex: My average delta as of late has been roughly one million per gvg. But I think I've been rather lucky. It used to be a lot less :D I lead my own guild, Jedi Mind Tricks, for a long time now. But my fellow Jedis and I are using another guild, Triforce of Power, for the remainder of this season, so my main account can be found there for the time being.

Andrea: You have been playing Kot for a long time, when did you start?
Alex: I started around October or November 2015. It was only just after I obtained a new phone (probably the first one I had that was able to handle this kind of game!) and was Stockholm Syndromed immediately.

Andrea: We all start out in different guilds, what other guilds have you been in?
Alex: The first guild I joined was İmrn, but I left soon because it wasn't very active. I went to deeznutshagotem because it's a funny guild name and stayed there for a while. The first "big" guild I joined was Corrupt. The guys there were amazing, I learned a lot, and made many good friends. I went to become co-leader of the guild alongside Got Corbin, and later Corrupt merged with Hyrule (then led by the big toast) into a new guild Triforce of Power, which was the most powerful and energetic guild I have experienced. Unfortunately, the project did not last very long, which is why I went to visit some of my fellow Watchers in YISI. After one season there I decided to move my main account to Jedi Mind Tricks, the guild I had created and cultivated with my alt account the whole time and that is the guild I've been intensely occupied with since.

Andrea: How many hours a day do you feed your KoT addiction?
Alex: It depends greatly on the guild battle and other real life activities. Usually it's about an hour per day on average. But when the guild battle is tough or I want to berserk a ritual, I can play about four or more hours a day. I virtually never hit the limit though.

Andrea: What ist the number one tip you would give other players?
Alex: Search for a comfy home guild if you aren't already in one. For me the social aspect of this game is the most important. Being competitive is great but only if your whole team is great! Always remember that the game is about having fun.

Andrea: What was your best experience in the game?
Alex: The greatest moment in KoT was a few seasons ago, when I was in Triforce of Power battling MiniGold. With three hours to go in the gvg, we were at 15M against their 20M and we noticed all of them were offline. We decided to fire things up and go full on and try to beat them after all. We all skipped until we ran out of gold, orbs or hit playtime limits, until we were at 21.9M vs 21.9M in the last few minutes. In the end we lost by an incredibly small margin, but the way we got so pumped up and full of adrenalin ready to show them who's boss... that's what made it so great, and that is what I loved so much about ToP.

Andrea: What is your biggest regret in the game?
Alex: They added thrones when I was just one eye short of crafting Foreseer, so now I don't have the Foreseer outfit. I could have had Foreseer earlier if I realized on time that crafting Purple Splash was bad. I still get nightmares of it.

Andrea: Who would you consider to be your KoT heros?
Alex: The Watcher team is an incredible force of awesome people. They gave me the opportunity to serve the community and learn more about the game along the way, so every Watcher I've worked with are heroes to me. They are like family to me now. Some extra special thanks to Fezzik and DanFariasM. Ryblik, Got Corbin, Draco, The Big Toast a.k.a. Bryan Berndt, Coffee Bob, Santiago, Rami, no name and Alexis are all also awesome personalities in KoT; the game and its community wouldn't be the same without them.

Andrea: What would you like to see introduced or changed in the game?
Alex: Guild or season mechanics. Deliberate lowering of delta being an important facet of reaping maximal rewards is very counterintuitive and leads to crazy situations sometimes. I'd also like to see disco balls, or disco cubes, or disco rhombic triacontahedrons, as optional decorations above my totem.

Andrea: If you could have one KoT wish, what would it be?
Alex: To have the gold coin currency replaced with doughnuts, so that the term "gold" is no longer ambiguous.

Andrea: How would you describe KoT to a stranger?
Alex: "Basically, you steal virtual gems using virtual currencies so that you get rewarded with more of the same virtual currencies which you can then use to steal more virtual gems. Hmm? What? What to do after you stole enough gems? You've never stolen enough gems. Now go away so I can continue skipping."

Andrea: We all have our favorit raiding costume, what is your, and why?
Alex: As an owner of the Watcher outfit I have to say I love it and I always use it when raiding. The King's Watcher wears pink and its eye can shoot laser beams. These laser beams don't actually do anything in-game so it's useless for raiding, that's why you never see me doing it in the game, but it's totally bad ass.

Andrea: Personally I am a heat person, but others prefer the cold. If you had your choice of places to go for vacation, what would it be?
Alex: I'm definitely more of a heat person, but nothing too extreme. A sunny place with temperatures around 25 degrees Celcius, which has good beer, a place to play snooker, a place to play pinball, and a place to play with other balls sounds perfect to me.

Andrea: What is your favorite flavor of chocolate?
Alex: Pure chocolate. I would have said white chocolate, but that's not really chocolate, so it doesn't count. Are you implying that white chocolate is actually chocolate? OK, this interview is over.

Alex, it is nice to find out a little more about you, again thank you for taking the time to let us all get to know you better.

Andrea: Roman, again, thank you for taking the time and letting us get to know the man behind the pumpkin a little better.
